How Retromint Works

Retromint makes it easier to rediscover iconic technology and find refurbished examples that are currently available to buy.

We bring together product information, recognised variants and selected marketplace offers in one place, so you can spend less time searching and more time finding the version you actually want.

Finding the right products

Retromint focuses on iconic technology from the past — the products people still care about long after their original launch.

Each product is researched and organised into its recognised models, colours and variants wherever possible.

Our product pages combine specifications, release information, reference imagery and currently available marketplace offers to create a useful starting point for researching and finding older technology.

How we find offers

Retromint currently searches eBay for refurbished listings that appear to match the product or variant you are viewing.

Our systems automatically assess marketplace listings using information such as:

  • product and model information;
  • variant and colour;
  • refurbished condition;
  • price;
  • delivery information; and
  • other listing information made available through eBay.

Listings that do not meet Retromint's criteria may be excluded.

Because marketplace listings are created by individual sellers and our matching process is automated, occasional errors can happen.

Always check the eBay listing for the current price, photographs, condition, seller information and full item details before purchasing.

Why Retromint focuses on refurbished products

Buying older technology can be unpredictable.

Two devices that appear identical in search results can differ significantly in cosmetic condition, functionality and the standard to which they have been prepared for resale.

Rather than simply displaying the cheapest used item available, Retromint focuses on eBay listings using recognised refurbished condition grades where suitable inventory is available.

That gives shoppers a more structured way to compare older technology.

The eBay Refurbished programme

In markets where the eBay Refurbished programme operates, eBay uses defined refurbished condition grades including:

Certified Refurbished
Excellent Refurbished
Very Good Refurbished
Good Refurbished

These conditions are designed to give buyers clearer expectations about the condition and functionality of refurbished products.

For example, eBay's UK programme says sellers must qualify to use its refurbished grades and that eligible items must be fully functional, professionally inspected, cleaned and refurbished. The condition grades then distinguish differences in cosmetic wear and refurbishment standards.

In the US programme, eBay similarly describes refurbished items as fully functional and distinguishes Certified, Excellent, Very Good and Good products by cosmetic condition and seller type.

This additional structure is one of the reasons Retromint considers refurbished inventory particularly useful for older technology.

It gives visitors more information than a generic “used” label alone.

Programme protection varies by country

The exact benefits attached to refurbished listings can vary depending on the eBay marketplace.

For example, the current UK programme requires at least a one-year seller guarantee for its refurbished grades, while the US programme currently includes one- or two-year warranty coverage depending on the grade.

For that reason, Retromint does not make a universal warranty or returns promise.

Always check the individual eBay listing for the refurbishment status, warranty, returns, delivery and buyer protections that apply to that specific purchase.

Retromint is independent from eBay

Retromint is an independent website.

We are not eBay, we are not part of eBay's refurbishment programme, and Retromint does not inspect, refurbish or certify the products displayed on this website.

A refurbished condition displayed on Retromint is based on marketplace information supplied through eBay.

Retromint does not independently examine the physical item or verify its cosmetic condition.

When you purchase something through an eBay link, the transaction takes place between you, the relevant seller and eBay.

What does “Best offer” mean?

Retromint selects a Best offer from the qualifying listings identified by our systems.

For refurbished products, our ranking can consider factors including condition, price and delivery information.

“Best offer” does not mean that Retromint guarantees the listing is the cheapest item currently available anywhere on eBay.

There may be other listings that Retromint has not included because they do not meet our product, variant, condition or other matching criteria.

Marketplace inventory can also change between updates.

Offer rankings are independent

Individual eBay sellers cannot pay Retromint to become the Best offer or obtain a higher position in our offer rankings.

Our offer selection operates independently of individual sellers.

Affiliate commission does not determine which seller or listing is placed first.

Prices and availability

eBay prices and inventory can change quickly.

Retromint periodically refreshes the marketplace information displayed on its product pages and shows when that information was last checked.

Prices, delivery costs and availability displayed by Retromint should therefore be treated as a current reference rather than a guaranteed purchase price.

The information displayed on the relevant eBay listing when you visit eBay is the information that applies to the transaction.

Retromint does not sell the products displayed on the website and does not process payments or orders.

Product images

The main product imagery displayed on Retromint may be representative imagery rather than a photograph of the specific item offered by an eBay seller.

This allows Retromint to present products and variants clearly and consistently.

The actual seller's item may differ in:

  • cosmetic condition;
  • colour or finish;
  • markings;
  • accessories;
  • packaging; and
  • general appearance.

Always review the photographs and description on the individual eBay listing before purchasing.

Refurbished condition grades

Where available, Retromint may organise offers into the following refurbished grades:

Certified Refurbished

Generally represents the highest refurbishment grade within the applicable eBay programme.

In eBay's UK programme, Certified products must be professionally inspected, cleaned and refurbished by the manufacturer or a manufacturer-approved vendor and presented in pristine, like-new condition.

Excellent Refurbished

Typically describes a fully functional professionally refurbished item with no or minimal visible signs of use.

Very Good Refurbished

Typically describes a fully functional professionally refurbished item with some light signs of previous use.

Good Refurbished

Typically describes a fully functional professionally refurbished item that may show more noticeable cosmetic wear.

eBay's exact definitions and programme requirements vary by marketplace, and the individual seller's listing should always be checked before purchasing.

Our relationship with eBay

Retromint participates in the eBay Partner Network.

This means Retromint may earn a commission when you follow an eligible eBay link from Retromint and complete a qualifying purchase.

This affiliate relationship helps support the operation and development of Retromint.

It does not determine how offers are ranked, and individual eBay sellers do not pay Retromint for the Best offer position.

Retromint identifies its affiliate relationship close to relevant eBay offers.

Are Retromint and eBay the same company?

No.

Retromint is not eBay, is not operated by eBay and is not sponsored or endorsed by eBay.

References to eBay and its refurbishment programme are provided to explain the marketplace listings and condition information displayed through Retromint.

When you select View on eBay, you leave Retromint and continue to eBay.

Can Retromint make mistakes?

Occasionally, yes.

Retromint combines its own product catalogue with automated marketplace information.

Although we take reasonable steps to make our matching and product information useful and accurate, a listing may occasionally:

  • be matched to the wrong product or variant;
  • contain inaccurate information supplied by a seller;
  • change after Retromint last checked it;
  • become unavailable;
  • have its price or delivery charge changed; or
  • differ from the representative imagery displayed by Retromint.

For that reason:

Always check the eBay listing for the current price, images, condition, seller information and full item details before purchasing.

If you notice an offer or product detail that appears incorrect, please contact:
